I’ve had this for a number of months now, and I absolutely love it. I use it a few times a week, and it’s held up nicely. I was reluctant to get it when I saw that the negative reviews seemed especially bad, but I loved the pattern so much that I decided to risk it. I’m glad that I did. It looks just as it did in the pictures. Along with being pretty, I like that the texture of it gives me some grip and I don’t find it too thick or thin. It did have a smell to it when I first received it, but it wasn’t too much of a bother and faded away after a bit. I’d recommend it.
I bought this mat for a college yoga class that would satisfy my PE requirements and it lasted really well through frequent, often sweaty and not-at-all gentle use. Just a note: anyone who says it is slippery or smelly and tells you not to buy it never bothered to clean it. It is like any other work out gear you would use and should be cleaned before the first use and again every so often after that. As soon as I got it in the mail, I put it in the shower, gave it a little squirt of dish soap and hosed it down then spread it out to dry overnight. Once I could get some mat cleaner spray, the already easy wash process was even easier. Doing this fixed the slightly slick feeling all mats have when they first arrive and also completely gets rid of the new plastic/new rubber smell that most (if not all) mats have when you first buy them. Once that was done, this was literally the best mat I have ever used and will ever use. I anticipate it lasting for many more years but when it finally does wear out, I will be ordering the exact same one again. My seven year old will usually never use anything pink or purple but even he was caught sneaking it into his room to practice the yoga moves his teacher would do with the kids in her class. I never had a problem with slipping, even on slick, sometimes dusty wood floor of the college yoga studio. I have practiced on wood floors, laminate wannabe wood flooring, tile, linoleum and even outside on dirt or grass and never had any slippage. The fact that three quarters of the class also showed up with Gaiam yoga mats (in various colors and patterns, of course) should be a testament to how well it works and lasts. I am now looking at getting my son his own so I can hopefully get mine back.
Needed to change out the color of my mat. Gaiam has never disappointed. It is a bit thin but that's okay with me. I like to press deep and be grounded when I do yoga. I don't like a lot of padding under my feet because I need to feel grounded. This mat offers it all. A nice sticky surface that let's me stretch without worrying if my hands or feet will slip. Ignore the other negative reviews -- especially if you're into serious yoga. For the price, this one delivers.
This is my first yoga mat and I went from using it on laminate to using it on tile. It’s not thick enough for the tile, my knees hurt for a few stretches. Love the pattern and material though. Don’t have problems with slippage during exercise, yet easy to reposition when I want.
I got this as a replacement for my regular gym mat after leaving my mat in class. The color is just perfect! It's much lighter in person than in photos, but I actually like it much better! The mat is just the right thickness and moderately sticky which is great for stability. I would definitely recommend to any beginner yogi.+ Stability / Stickiness+ Great thickness for feeling the floor+ Lightweight+ Price+ Pattern- Color Accuracy- No included strap / carrying bag
